About OCC
A new art complex conceived by director Hiroshi Koike after 44 years of creative work spanning over 40 countries. From Pappa TARAHUMARA (1982–2012) to the Hiroshi Koike Bridge Project-ODYSSEY (2012–)——a sustained practice of crossing borders, colliding and harmonizing different cultures, bodies, and genres——and now, a step beyond.
In July 2026, a physical base opens in Kiba, Tokyo.
OCC is not a conventional rental studio or theater. It is a space where thought and practice are continuously renewed together——a port of creation and experimentation from which artists embark on an “irreversible voyage,” never to return to the same place twice.
A professional space for creation and experimentation, built around generous ceiling height and an open spatial structure. Functions as a residency-style base where artists from Japan and abroad engage in intensive creative work.
Productions by Hiroshi Koike, the regular talk series “Koike Talk,” and the flagship program “WILD CLASSICS”——where world traditional music, contemporary music, and improvisation intersect. The cultural core of OCC.
A library of 44 years of footage, documentation, and directorial notes made available to the public. Workshops transmitting Hiroshi Koike’s methodology and body techniques are held on an ongoing basis.
With a bar on site, a space where artists, audiences, and supporters connect on equal footing. A place you come to enter deeply — a device where people and ideas become connected.
Kiba, Koto-ku, Tokyo——a destination you visit with purpose, at a quiet remove from the city center. A professional space for creation and experimentation, built around generous ceiling height and an open spatial structure.
